Village of Sherman 1889

This is the map of the Village of Sherman as it was laid out in 1889. Notice the Courthouse Square with the original Courthouse building still there, now being used as the school. The County Capitol had already been moved at this time to Cadillac by way of Manton. At this time Sherman was heading to being its own township. Parts of Sherman were in four townships at the time which can be determined on the map along Manistee Street. Streets were named for main businessmen: Clark Street, Gasser Street and Maqueston Street. Church Street had the Methodist Episcopal Church the North side of the street and the Congregational Church on the South side. Click on map to enlarge and explore.
